FreshPup — Native iOS Application for The Farmer's Dog
Prepared by Streamwalkers Corporation for The Farmer's Dog, Inc.
1. Executive summary
The Farmer's Dog serves a passionate subscriber base through a web experience alone, while its closest competitor, Ollie, already offers delivery management, dog health tracking, personalized profiles, push notifications, referrals, and account controls through a highly rated native iOS app. This proposal covers the path to a production-grade native iOS application — working title "FreshPup" — that puts plan management, delivery control, wellbeing tracking, and re-engagement surfaces (push notifications, Live Activities, widgets) directly on the customer's home screen. Based on the customer experience, subscription management, fulfillment integrations, and reliability requirements involved, Streamwalkers expects the full production build to fall within a $300,000–$500,000 investment range. Rather than quoting a fixed build price before technical discovery, this proposal offers a fixed-fee $30,000 Mobile Product Discovery engagement that concludes with a validated roadmap, interactive prototype, integration assessment, and a final fixed-price implementation proposal. A fully interactive concept simulator is available at the accompanying pitch site.
2. Why this is an enterprise build
The Farmer's Dog builds its technology in-house — subscription, e-commerce, fulfillment, and delivery infrastructure on a published stack including TypeScript, GraphQL, Temporal, PostgreSQL, and AWS. A native app must therefore integrate with a sophisticated existing platform rather than create an isolated duplicate. The application will touch systems controlling:
- Customer authentication · dog profiles and personalized nutrition plans
- Recipes, portions, and delivery frequency · subscription billing
- Shipment scheduling, delays, and rush orders · addresses and payment methods
- Real-time order tracking · push notifications · referrals and promotions
- Customer support · analytics and experimentation · privacy, account deletion, and security
Market context: serious subscription/e-commerce apps typically run $150,000–$300,000, and enterprise consumer platforms $300,000–$750,000+. Industry-average figures near $90,000 blend small apps, offshore teams, and limited-scope projects, and are not a reliable benchmark at The Farmer's Dog's scale. Because The Farmer's Dog sells physical goods, the app can use Apple Pay or the existing payment processor rather than Apple's digital-goods in-app purchase system; Apple nevertheless requires proper privacy disclosures and in-app account deletion wherever account creation is supported.
3. Phase 1 — Mobile Product Discovery (this engagement)
Four to five weeks, fixed fee $30,000. Deliverables:
- Executive and engineering stakeholder interviews; customer journey and support-friction analysis
- Competitive analysis (Ollie and category); existing API and backend integration assessment
- Native iOS architecture; interactive prototype; feature prioritization and delivery roadmap
- Success metrics and financial model; final fixed-price implementation proposal for Phase 2
4. Phase 2 — Production iOS V1 (indicative, priced at discovery close)
Target allocation, assuming existing APIs and backend systems are integration-ready. The final fixed price is presented as the concluding deliverable of Phase 1; if APIs are incomplete or the build must modify billing, subscription, or fulfillment infrastructure, the investment may reasonably rise to $500,000–$750,000.
| Component | Indicative fee |
|---|---|
| Product strategy and technical architecture | $35,000 |
| UX/UI design and prototype refinement | $50,000 |
| Native iOS development | $180,000 |
| Backend and API integration | $60,000 |
| QA, security, accessibility, and performance | $45,000 |
| App Store launch and 90-day stabilization | $25,000 |
| Phase 2 target | $395,000 |
Ongoing maintenance and optimization following launch: $18,000–$25,000 per month, scoped at Phase 2 contracting, cancellable with 30 days' notice.
5. Payment & timeline
Phase 1: 50% ($15,000) upon execution of the Professional Services Agreement, 50% on delivery of the discovery package; kickoff within ten business days of execution. Phase 2 milestones, payment schedule, and team composition are defined in the fixed-price proposal delivered at discovery close.
